Local firm Earth and Sky Architecture introduces an architectural innovation - the Solar Cabin

DENVER, CO – Who doesn’t dream about having a mountain retreat or second home? Paul Adams, Architect and owner of Earth and Sky Architecture did, and took advantage of his firm’s expertise in environmentally-sensitive design to create a high-style, innovative retreat-oriented home that conscientious, working professionals like him could not just be proud of, but afford.

The customizable “Solar Cabin” actually produces its own heat and electricity - effectively erasing utility bills. Not only is the home designed for low maintenance and self-sufficiency, but integration of the healthiest building materials available provides a breath of fresh mountain air even when indoors. No need for a sprinkler system, either - the home utilizes rain or snow accumulated on the roof to water the surrounding native landscaping.

In addition to energy-saving technologies, the Solar Cabin proves that there’s no need to sacrifice the modern comforts of home to live in a more environmentally-friendly home. Earth and Sky designed the home to offer all the modern features you’ve come to expect such as efficient appliances, digital TV, high speed Internet and future adaptability.

The firm considered several social realities in the design of the home as well. For example, the home was designed to accommodate a population that’s living longer, more active lives. Using principles of universal design, a home can be comfortably useable by every family member - regardless of age, size, abilities or disabilities. Built-in accessibility and safety features include entrances with no steps, wide doorways and hallways, a large, fully accessible bathroom on the first floor, and easy-to-reach cabinets, countertops, and appliances.

According to firm owner, Paul Adams, the Solar Cabin “artfully integrates proven technologies to provide a leap forward in construction practice and delivers a home that outperforms all production housing being built today.”
